  youngest child of Luther John and Sally [Gale] Hawes. Enlisted in Co. D. 50th Regiment, Wisconsin volunteers to serve in Civil War. While stationed in St. Louis, MO. contracted small pox & died. Luther was known as Lester. Luther & his wife Emily [called Jane - Lindsay] had 1 son Charles - Jane died in 1852 & Lester married again, to Mary M. Robertson & had 4 more children.
