  Orpha graduated from college in Vermont. She was short, very active, clever at dressmaking & knitting. After John's death she supported the family with her dressmaking. in 1888 she went to Bertha, MN to live with daughter Ida on a farm. in 1895 she visited her brother Cyrus Hawes at Oxford, WI. On the farm she fell and broke her hip, never recovering, she died 7/27/1904 and is buried in Bertha, MN
