- Here is a transcript from my Great Grandmother’s Obituary notice in the Dalles Chronicle dated March 9 1901.
Death of Mrs. Sophia Palmer. Died yesterday afternoon, March 7th, at the residence of her son, H. J. Palmer of this city, Mrs. Sophia Palmer, age sixty-five years and nearly three months. Mrs. Palmer has been in feeble health for many weeks anand her death was not unexpected. She was born in Ohio and after living for a time in Kansas and Nebraska, moved with her family to Oregon in 1886 and settled in Crook County, making her home in Prineville and Mitchell until a few months ago when she followed her son who is in the employ of Pease and Mays, to the Dalles.
Mrs. Palmer leaves five living children, three sons and two daughters. These are A. C. Palmer of Prineville, Editor of the Crook County Journal; Wm L. Palmer of Felzer, Baker County; H. J. Palmer of this city; Mrs. C. A. Randolph of Portland and Mrs. C. E. Fry of Denver, Colorado.
Mrs. Palmer was genial, warm hearted and an earnest Christian Woman who leaves a host of friends among her neighbors and acquaintances in Crook County. She was converted at the age of thirteen and has been a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for the past twenty-five years.
The funeral took place from the house at the end of the old Fair Grounds at three o’clock and was conducted by Rev. U. F. Hawk.
